Lancers Open Season With Loss to Waterloo

The blue and gold fell in three straight sets to the host Waterloo Warriors.

The Lancer women’s volleyball team traveled up to Waterloo to open the 2021-22 regular season for game one of a weekend doubleheader. Unfortunately for the blue and gold they fell short 3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 19-25) to the host Waterloo Warriors at the Physical Activities Complex.

GAME STATS:

Outside hitter Yaila Sealy put in the work for the blue and gold tallying nine total kills, while Emma Sheppard had a strong offense racking up eight kills for the team.

Setter and captain Brooke Davis recorded 26 assists and 11 digs for the squad.

GAME FLOW:

In the opening game, the Lancers had a slow start but held good rallies against the host Warriors. Waterloo kicked off the game with a 10-3 run and the Lancers were unable to come back, falling 15-25.

The second set continued a similar pattern with the Warriors coming out strong on the attack and finding holes in Lancer territory to dig deep and extend their lead. With some chances to tighten up their ball control, the Blue and Gold could not settle down and find ways to bounce back, dropping the second set 16-25.

In the final set of the match, the Warriors held their momentum as the Lancers tried to put in a strong effort to close the gap. Despite Windsor trying to hold the Warriors off in the late stages of the set, they could not handle the pressure put on by Waterloo’s offense and fell 19-25 to close the game.

UP NEXT:

The Lancers will face the Warriors in a rematch on Saturday, November 13th at 6:00 pm at the Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo. The game can be seen live at oua.tv.
