CALGARY – Fifth-year Pandas outside hitter Kory White set a new Canada West kills record on Friday night, recording her 1,322nd career kill in the Pandas first set against the Calgary Dinos.
White breaks the previous record of 1,321, set by former Panda and Canada West Player of the Year Meg Casault (2012-17). Casault became the all-time kills leader in 2017, breaking the record of 1,254 held by fellow Pandas alumnae Tawana McLeod (nee Wardlaw).
“Kory has been one of the most driven, committed, and hard-working athletes I’ve ever coached. It’s only fitting that she leaves her mark on the record books as she has certainly made a tremendous impact on our team,” said Pandas head coach Laurie Eisler. “Her accomplishments in the sport to date are impressive, and she has an exciting future ahead of her once this season is complete as she takes the next steps in her career.”
White joined the Pandas in 2017 after spending one season at the University of Seattle. The Pandas Volleyball club product set the new kills record in just her fourth season with the Pandas, having played 31 fewer sets than Casault did during her career with the Pandas.
She also broke Casault’s Canada West points record of 1513.0 on Friday night, having now recorded 1,525.5 points in her varsity career.
With a 3-1 win on Friday night, the U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Pandas are now 14-1 in conference play with three regular season games remaining. The Canada West playoffs are scheduled to start on March 4th.
