Katrina Renon, Ally Rowe, Ollie Engen, Zig Licis named Queen’s University Student-Athletes of the Week

KINGSTON, Ont. (Dec. 2, 2024) – Katrina Renon, Ally Rowe, Ollie Engen, and Zig Licis were named the Queen’s University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.

Renon (Arts & Science) helped Queen’s Women’s Basketball extend their winning streak to eight games with a weekend sweep on the road. The Gaels defeated the York Lions 79-44 Friday night in Toronto, Ont. before following up with a 60-56 win over the McMaster Marauders Saturday in Hamilton, Ont.

Renon finished with two double-doubles over the weekend, recording a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Lions and 13 points and 12 rebounds against the Marauders. Renon is now third in the OUA in rebounds, averaging 10.1 per season.

Queen’s enters the Winter Break in third place in the OUA East Division standings with a 8-2 record. The Gaels are off until January 10 and 11, when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Rowe (Life Sci/BioChem) helped Queen’s Women’s Water Polo earn a silver medal in the NCWP this past weekend. Rowe is the first captain to lead the Gaels to back-to-back championship appearances since water polo transitioned to the NCWP.

Rowe had four key goals in the Gaels semifinal win over the McGill Martlets.

Engen (Kinesiology) helped Queen’s Men’s Basketball sweep their weekend series as well, which improved their record to 9-1 on the season. The Gaels opened the weekend with a 110-87 win over the York Lions on Friday night before following up with a 70-69 win over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday.

Engen combined for 40 points over the weekend, recording 22 in Friday’s win over York and 18 in Saturday’s win over McMaster, while also adding eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

Engen is tied for second in the OUA in scoring at the break, averaging 20.2 points per game.

The Gaels finished the first half of the regular season tied for first place with the Carleton Ravens in the OUA East Division standings. Queen’s returns to action on January 10 and 11, hosting the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers.

Licis (Computer Engineering) led Queen’s Men’s Volleyball with a combined 39 kills over two games against the Toronto Varsity Blues this past weekend.

In Friday’s 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 19-17) win over the Varsity Blues, Licis had 20 kills while adding 14 digs and three service aces. In Saturday’s 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13) loss to Toronto, Licis recorded 19 kills with nine digs and four service aces. 

Licis is fourth in the OUA in kills this season with 119, despite having played only eight games.

The Gaels finished the first half of their regular season in third place in the OUA standings with a 9-3 record. Queen’s returns to the court on January 17 and 18 with a doubleheader against the Guelph Gryphons on the road.
