The Providence University College Pilots are on top for a few reasons. One is Kadence Bolen.
The second-year middle blocker led her team to third- and fourth-straight wins to start the MCAC women’s volleyball season and has been named female athlete of the week.
“Kadence came into this season having worked really hard in the offseason and with a new confidence to her game,” said head coach Kyle Guenther.
“Over the first couple of weeks, she has been dominant on both sides of the ball for us. This past weekend, when our team wasn’t at our best, she was the one that we counted on to turn things around in a lot of ways. She helps us spread out our offence which will be imperative for this group.
“It looks like she is having a lot of fun on the court and raises the team’s morale every time she is out there.”
Bolen posted eight kills, three blocks and an ace in a 3-1 win over Assiniboine Community College on Friday. Then she added 13 kills, six blocks and six digs in a five-setter the following day to drop the Cougars to 2-2.
In the other matches on the weekend, Canadian Mennonite University beat Université de Saint-Boniface (0-4) twice to improve to 2-2.
It’s a quiet weekend ahead, with the Blazers visiting the Pilots and the Cougars hosting Les Rouges on Saturday.
