HAMILTON – Olivia Julien and Irman Kang have been named the Marauder Athletes of the Week for their performances over the weekend.
Women’s Volleyball – Olivia Julien
Olivia Julien, a first-year outside hitter, had a career weekend in the Marauders’ back-to-back wins over the Western Mustangs. The rookie recorded nine kills on Friday night while also contributing eight digs and one service ace in the 3-0 sweep. Julien followed up that performance with another impressive night on Saturday. The Toronto local had a career-high nineteen kills as well as two service aces, ten digs and a block assist in the second victory over the Mustangs. Her 19 kills was the highest among all Marauders that night. The Life Sciences major currently averages 2.40 kills per set (19th in the OUA), has recorded 84 total kills (18th in the conference) and averages 0.40 service aces per set.
Men’s Wrestling – Irman Kang
A second-year on the Marauders wrestling team, Irman Kang was dominant at the Brock Open on Saturday in St. Catharines. The Caledon, Ont. local opened the day with a technical fall win over a CLIC wrestler before winning each of his ensuing matches by technical fall over competitors from Algoma, Brock and Lakehead, enroute to the gold medal in the 82kg class. The Humanities student went undefeated, and only conceded four points in his four matches to secure his first gold medal of the 2023-24 campaign. Kang led the Marauder men to a third place finish at the first competition of 2024, just behind the Brock Badgers and Guelph Gryphons.
