Janelle Albert named OUA West Division MVP

London, ON – With the regular season wrapped up and playoffs in full swing, the year end awards were announced on Tuesday for Women’s Volleyball.

Mustangs Outside Hitter Janelle Albert was the big winner on the day for Western as she was named West Division MVP & 1st team all-star.

Albert’s 4.28 kills per set led both the conference and country, while also ranking atop the OUA with 4.8 points per set and 154 total kills. Albert also finished fourth with a .313 hitting percentage and earned top-10 spots in both total digs (118; 8th in OUA) and digs per set (3.28; 9th in OUA).

This was Albert’s first season with the Mustangs after having previously played a year with Ryerson and then two seasons with the Fanshawe Falcons, where she also won the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year in 2019-20.

The Mustangs also received a 2nd team all-star recognition for 1st year setter Lauren Pastor, who along with Jaeya Brach were named to the All-Rookie team as well.

As they celebrate these individual honours, the Women’s Volleyball team is focussed on their OUA West Final game Wednesday night in St. Catharines as they take on the Brock Badgers. That game is set for 7:00 PM and fans can catch the action on OUA.tv
