HAMILTON, Ont. – Following an open competition for the position, McMaster University is proud to name Nathan Janzen as the Head Coach of the Marauders women’s volleyball squad. Janzen held the Interim Head Coach title during the 2023-24 season, leading the team to a provincial silver medal and a 5th place finish in the nation.
Janzen will be assisted by Tim Louks who will serve his 38th season with the Marauders this fall. “Outstanding news for the women’s volleyball program here at McMaster. The announcement of Coach Janzen cements our determination to be among the best programs in Ontario and Canada,” said Louks. “This announcement solidifies our commitment to the future for student-athletes that are considering McMaster University as a destination for academics and athletics. I could not be more pleased that we will continue to invest in the women’s game at McMaster.”
Guiding the women’s volleyball team to their best historical finish in program history last season, Janzen is no stranger to achieving success at an OUA, U SPORTS, and national level. In 2023, Janzen claimed victory as the Head Coach of Canada’s Youth National team at the Women’s Canada Cup.
Eric Bourque, Marauders’ Interim Associate Director, Athletics shared his thoughts about the exciting news. “I’m thrilled to confirm Nathan as the permanent Women’s Volleyball Head Coach. Nathan’s passion for volleyball and the care he has for the players on the team shines through in every conversation he’s a part of. I believe we’ll see him build on the exceptional foundation that Coach Louks established while leading the program, and I’m excited to see how Nathan adds his own spin moving forward. I have no doubt that our program is in great hands for years to come.”
Janzen added, “I am incredibly excited and honored to be named the Head Coach of the McMaster’s women’s volleyball team. Having been a part of this program for many years and mentored by esteemed Coach Tim Louks, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and passion our athletes bring both on the court and in the classroom. This season, I am looking forward to building on our strong foundation and achieving new heights together. Go Marauders!”
After achieving a record-breaking season with the Marauders last season, Janzen spent the summer coaching his 14-year-old son’s baseball club team. Off the court, Janzen enjoys golfing, hiking, and canoeing. He is also an avid Blue Jays fan.
On October 25th, McMaster’s volleyball will open the 2024-25 season, travelling to the University of Toronto to face the Blues. Then, the Marauders will battle the Nipissing Lakers in a thrilling doubleheader in Burridge Gymnasium on November 1st and 2nd.
