HUMBER VERSUS DURHAM FOR OCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL GOLD

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Day 2 of the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship brought two semi-final matches between four very deserving teams that came to battle this week.

The first semi-final match was between Humber Hawks and Seneca Sting. Humber defeated Niagara Knights yesterday to get them to the semis and Seneca Sting defeated Conestoga Condors to bring us an exciting first game of the day.

After a hard-fought battle between two very competitive teams, the Hawks took the three straight sets over the Sting to earn themselves a spot in the championship game. The Player of the Game was awarded to Erika Dodd of Humber, who had an impressive nine kills, two blocks and one ace and Stella Dada of Seneca, who recorded six digs and six kills. Notable mentions from the match were Ngameni Davina of Seneca had nine kills and two aces, and Keyome Ellis who brought nine kills and four blocks.

The second semi-final game brought us the Durham Lords versus Mohawk Mountaineers. Both teams defeated their opponents yesterday in the quarter-final matches, advancing to today to stay alive at the championship. After a long, back and forth three sets, where all athletes gave everything they had on the court in a nailbiter of a match, Durham defeated Mohawk, buying them the open spot in the gold medal game tomorrow. The Player of the Game was awarded to Mia Hildebrandt of Durham documenting six kills and two blocks, and Lexie Zicari of Mohawk who logged an impressive 11 kills, one block, seven digs and one ace. Additional notable mentions from this match from Durham was Katie Stewart with nine kills, six blocks and six digs, and Mohawk’s Irene Jaramilllo with four aces, six kills and seven digs.

After today’s exciting match ups and hard-fought battles, tomorrow’s line ups are: Humber vs. Durham battling for the gold medal at 7:30 p.m. and Seneca and Mohawk will continue the fight for the bronze medal at 4:30 p.m.
