The Nipissing Lakers were in town to face the Warriors in back to back matches and Waterloo took out the visitors in six sets total, sweeping both games to head into the break with a very solid 8-2 record.
On Friday night, it was three incredibly tight sets that went the way of the Warriors (26-24, 25-23, 26-24) which shows the growth and maturity of this program to scrap out tight sets when it matters.
Abbey Neufeld (Battleford, SK/) was a force for the black and gold with 12 kills on just 22 attempts for a very impressive kill percentage of .409. She also added a block and service ace in the win. Sarah Glynn (Fredericton, NB) was also stellar with 10 kills and 13 digs while Avery Kelly (Calgary AB/) put down seven and rookie middle Avery Isaacs (Calgary, AB/) had five. Sarah Hewer (Whitby, ON/) and Claire Gagne (Cambridge, ON/) shared setting duties, combing for 31 assists.
On Saturday, it was a much more comfortable three set victory for Waterloo with set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.
Identical to one night prior, Neufeld and Glynn both put away 12 and 10 kills respectively while Jennifer Zhu (Oakville, ON/) was also in on the offence with 10 kills of her own. At the net Lauren Hebert (Burlington, ON/) was big with a game high four blocks while Gagne took on most of the setting load with 30 assists while also playing strong defence with 11 digs.
The Warriors find themselves atop the OUA standings with eight wins while Brock, Western and McMaster also all have eight wins on the year.
Waterloo will be back in action in the New Year on January 6 in Guelph against the Gryphons.
