Hofer Wins Canada West Athlete of the Week

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western outside Brodie Hofer (Langley, B.C.) has been recognized as this week’s Canada West Men’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week.

Hofer has been a consistent performer for the Spartans throughout the 2021-22 season so far, with this past weekend’s matches against Fraser Valley seeing no different result for the third-year.

Over the entire weekend, which saw the Spartans defeat UFV on Thursday and Friday, Hofer averaged 5.1 kills-per-set, serving as one of the most prominent options for TWU’s play at the net. While 5.1 kills-per-set alone stands as an impressive stat, it was Hofer’s efficiency at the net that truly set him apart from the rest. Hofer’s attacking efficiency ended at .613, lifting the Spartans past the Cascades with such a strong weekend.

Although Hofer is primarily recognized as an attacking threat, he also featured in a prominent defensive, and serving role for the Spartans. Hofer aced six times across Friday’s game while averaging 1.8 digs-per-set across all nine he played against UFV.

The Spartans head into the break boasting a 6-0 record, completing weekend sweeps over Thompson Rivers, UBC, and most recently, UFV. Although the Cascades weren’t touted as an upper-echelon team in Canada West, they certainly gave the Spartans a run. TWU had to rely on Hofer, and the rest of the team’s core to squeak out a 3-2 win over the Cascades on Friday.
