LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western University graduated Avery Heppell (’22, Langley) is the latest Spartans women’s volleyball player to sign a professional contract in Europe, with the star middle inking a deal with Rote Raben Vilsbiburg of the Germany Bundesliga.
Heppell capped her university career in outstanding fashion, as she helped the Spartans win both the Canada West and U SPORTS championships and was named the MVP of the national tournament. This came on the heels of an incredible 2021-22 regular season in which she was a Canada West First Team All-Star and a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian.
Over the course of the 2021-22 regular season, she finished second in Canada West and fourth in U SPORTS for kill percentage, as she hit .377 on the season while averaging 2.33 kills per set. Heppell helped TWU go on a 6-1 Canada West playoff run to win its third straight conference championship. Following that, she hit .469 over the Spartans three matches at nationals, while averaging 2.55 kills per set and 2.0 blocks per set.
Most recently, Heppell was named to Canada’s 25-player roster for the 2022 Volleyball Nations League. Last summer, Heppell trained with Canada’s NextGen program before donning the Maple Leaf at 2021 Pan-American Cup.
