KAMLOOPS – Chad Grimm is once again ready to represent Canada at the international level, as the head coach of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women’s volleyball team has been named an assistant coach with the Canadian National U-21 Women’s team at the upcoming NORCECA Championship.
Hosted in Toronto from June 25-30, the NORCECA Championship brings the top teams from across North and Central America together for a continental clash.
“It’s good to stay involved, to get into the different gyms and see different athletes,” said Grimm of the opportunity. “It’s good professional development and exposure to change things up and see different perspectives. In our profession we are so siloed into our little gyms, so it’s great to get out and see some other things.”
Grimm will first head to Kitchener, ON for a two-week training camp before helping lead Canada into action at the tournament held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
Representing Canada at youth levels as an athlete, Grimm most recently donned the maple leaf when he joined the Senior National Women’s team as an assistant coach for the NORCECA Championship in August of 2021.
“Different training ideas and structures – ways of doing scouting or video – whatever the case is, it’s just how they manage their groups that can be different,” said Grimm on what he can bring back to the ‘Pack from the experience. “We won’t always have the same options or resources as the national team, but it gives you different ideas. The game is always evolving so it gives you a look into what the game is looking like at the next level.”
Originally from Kersley, BC, Grimm has been the head coach of the WolfPack since the 2014-15 season. Grimm has transformed the program into one that is routinely in contention for the CW postseason – including a trip to the conference quarter-finals this past season. 13 members of the ‘Pack have earned conference recognition on all-star or all-rookie teams during his tenure.
