Gaels top Waterloo in straight sets, advance to Quigley Cup

Queen’s Women’s Volleyball has advanced to the OUA Quigley Cup Championships, defeating the Waterloo Warriors 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-13) Saturday night in Waterloo, Ont.

One week after opening the OUA Playoffs with an upset win over the Western Mustangs, the No. 7 seed Gaels pulled off another big straight sets win, and will play for the OUA Championship next week.

Arielle Palermo (Burlington, Ont.) had a big game for Queen’s in the win, recording a game-high 15 kills while adding seven digs, one assist, and one block.

Mary Stewart (Uxbridge, Ont.) was also strong for the Gaels in the win, recording 13 kills and a team-high 12 digs.

Shea Baker (Vancouver, B.C.) had 41 assists in the win while Lauren Mellon (Oakville, Ont.) added four blocks for Queen’s.

With the win, the Gaels will play in the Quigley Cup Championship on Saturday, March 11 against the winner of the second OUA semifinal between the Brock Badgers and York Lions.
