Gaels defeat Lakehead for weekend sweep

Queen’s Women’s Volleyball defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-1 (25-13, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17) Saturday night for a weekend sweep in Thunder Bay, Ont.

After big wins in the first and second sets for Queen’s, the Thunderwolves cut the lead in half in the third set, before the Gaels closed out the win with another big win in the fourth set.

Mary Stewart (Uxbridge, Ont.) led Queen’s offensively, finishing with a game-high 16 kills while also adding six digs.

Shea Baker (Vancouver, B.C.) led the Gaels with a game-high 36 assists while Kristine Boileau (Waterloo, Ont.) led all players with 12 digs.

With the victory, Queen’s improved their record to 14-2 and remain in second place in the OUA standings. The Gaels are back on the court next weekend, hosting the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
