Queen’s University alumni and former Gaels student-athlete Michael Amoroso has been working to increase the media exposure for Canadian volleyball along with Parrish Offer (McMaster University) with their company Momentum Volleyball.
Both Amoroso and Offer are both Black former volleyball players in the OUA, and have also served as coaches and administrators in the sport. Amoroso also played professionally after his time with the Gaels.
The two recently released an article on what Black History Month means to them and Momentum Volleyball. You can read the article on their website here.
“One of the biggest driving forces in my volleyball career, especially since retiring and working to build the sport back in Canada, has been the desire to provide young Black athletes with a role model in volleyball that looks like them,” said Amoroso.
Amoroso was a three-time OUA All-Star during his time at Queen’s. He finished his career with 552 kills (1.84/set) overall and an average of 2.6 points per set.
“I hope to be a positive role model for Black students looking to attend Queens in the future,” said Amoroso. “This is not only a place you belong, but also a place that you can thrive.”
