Students face many challenges with the transition from high school to college athletics. We’re highlighting athletes from all varsity teams this season who overcame adversity and are on the path to becoming great athletes.
This week we would like to introduce you to Springdale, Arkansas native Kyla Clubb. An outside hitter on the women’s volleyball team, Kyla is studying kinesiology.
How long have you been playing volleyball?
11 years.
Have you always played the same position?
No, I started in backrow.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I also played basketball and track and field growing up.
Who is an athlete you admired growing up and why?
Track and field athlete Payton Stumbaugh. She’s always been very mentally tough.
What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?
Winning the Nike Mid-East Qualifier in my 18s year.
What made you choose Dalhousie University?
I loved the team and being on the coast.
What are some differences you’ve noticed being a part of a DAL team compared to your previous teams?
The whole team including the staff are there for each other.
How would you describe your time with the team so far?
It has been a blessing already to be around such an amazing group of girls.
What are some of your interests outside of volleyball?
I love to workout and shop with my friends.
Any pre-game superstitions/routines?
Mentally prepping for the game and visualizing what I want to accomplish in it.
What is the biggest risk you’ve taken so far in your athletic career?
The biggest risk I’ve taken so far is learning to play a new position 4 years ago when recruiting season was coming up.
What was the coolest experience you’ve had so far this year?
Being able to play and study internationally.
Any hidden talents?
Spending all my money on coffee.
