ST. CATHARINES – The No. 2 nationally ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season falling in five sets to the McMaster Marauders on Friday night at Bob Davis Gym. Set scores for the match were 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 9-25, 15-13.
The defeat marks the first regular season loss for the Badgers since February of 2020, of which Brock registered a 23-match undefeated streak.
Bouncing back throughout the Friday night contest, the Badgers showed resilience in the second and fourth sets, keeping the game even all the way until the end. Of note, a dominant fourth set had the Badgers hold McMaster to a negative hitting percentage (-.148 ).
Sadie Dick led the way for Brock with 15 kills and four block assists for 17 total points, while Grace Pyatt and Emily Foest had 13.5 and 12 points, respectively. Christina Jovetic was also a standout for the Badgers at the service line recording four aces.
Brock setter Sara Rohr registered 40 assists in guiding the offence, while Badgers libero Aleiah Torres made a game-high 18 digs defensively on the night.
McMaster’s Sullie Sandara led all players with 20 points from 17 kills, two service aces, and two block assists.
The Badgers are back in action on the road next Friday, Jan. 20 in London when they play the Western Mustangs. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the match available to stream online via OUA.TV.
