DAY 1 COMPLETE AT OCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Day 1 of the OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship is underway at Sheridan College, Trafalgar Campus. On the agenda for today was four quarter final games, starting at 1 p.m. through 8 p.m., featuring the top eight teams in the OCAA.

Game 1 was a faceoff between Humber Hawks and Niagara Knights. The game was a good battle, and all athletes came out to play. The game ended with Humber taking the win over Niagara 3-0 advancing them to the semi-final match tomorrow. Players of the Game were awarded to Alex Lachapelle from Humber and Montanna Taylor.

The second game of the tournament was between St. Clair Saints and Seneca Sting. Both teams put on a great display of athleticism, skill, and sportsmanship. Seneca took the match with a 3-0 win over St. Clair advancing them to the semi-finals. Players of the Game were awarded to Geneva Huisman from St. Clair and Brooke Allerston from Seneca.

Game 3 was a head-to-head competition between Conestoga Condors and Mohawk Mountaineers. This was an exciting game to watch, not to mention a battle where both teams came to play. Mohawk is the third team to buy themselves a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow, with a final score of 3-0. Players of the Game were awarded to Mia Kuepfer of Conestoga and Irene Jaramilllo of Mohawk.

The last game of the quarter-finals was between the home team, Sheridan Bruins and Durham Lords. Although Sheridan had home court advantage that was not enough for them to bring home the W today. Sheridan fell 3-0 to Durham, earning the Lords the last spot in the semi-finals tomorrow. Players of the Game were awarded to Caroline Klich of Sheridan and Katie Stewart of Durham.

Tomorrow’s Semi Final matches are as follows: 6pm Humber Hawks vs Seneca Sting and 8pm between Mohawk Mountaineers vs. Durham Lords.

Loser Game #5 vs. Loser Game #6 – 4:30pm
Winning team presented OCAA Bronze Medal at conclusion of match

Gold Medal Match
Winner Game #5 vs. Winner Game #6 – 7:30pm
OCAA Gold and Silver Medals presented at conclusion of match
