In a season of marked improvement, the York University Lions women’s volleyball team was rewarded for its contributions — earning three OUA awards for their remarkable play on the court.
Chiara Da Silva earns a first team all-star nod, along with Olivia Kim. Alisa Trubyuk made the all-rookie team.
Da Silva, a fourth-year setter from Toronto, Ont., was selected to an all-star team for the first time in her career after finishing seventh in the OUA in assists per set with 8.03. She was also fifth in the conference in service aces per set, registering an average of 0.54.
Kim was also impressive as a constant presence on the Lions court, ranking fourth in the OUA in kills per set with 3.36. She was also third in hitting percentage across the province, at .314.
Trubyuk, a native of Woodbridge, Ont., arrived on the scene for her first season as a Lion after spending time playing with Reach Volleyball Club in the OVA in 2019-20. The first-year outside hitter ranked second on the team in kills with 59.
Kim and Da Silva both making the first team marks the first time two Lions appear on the first team since 2012-13 when Melissa Humana-Parades, Michelle Pierce and Brandie Wilkerson all made it. Humana-Parades and Wilkerson were Canadian teammates at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
