Madison Cronkwright (Napanee, ON) of the women’s hockey team and Kylar Code (Kanata, ON) of the men’s volleyball team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 10.
Cronkwright, a fourth-year forward, delivered the game winner in a thrilling 3-2 shootout win over the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Sport Management major sealed the game for the Badgers as she scored the second goal of the shootout after a sensational move past Ravens’ goaltender Kaitlyn Langille. Cronkwright’s critical goal kept the Badgers’ undefeated home streak alive at Canada Games Park. The night prior on Friday, Nov. 8, she scored both goals in a losing effort to the TMU Bold who won 3-2 in overtime. Cronkwright now leads the team in goals with four, with all four coming in the past four games where the Badgers have gone 3-1.
Another fourth-year athlete who had a strong weekend was Code, who helped the Badgers men’s volleyball team spilt a weekend series with the Toronto Varsity Blues. The 6-3 outside hitter led all scorers on Saturday with 21.5 points (17 kills, 2.5 blocks, 2 service aces) as the Badgers defeated the Varsity Blues 3-1. Code was impressive all facets of the game, hitting at a .379 percentage and delivering a game-high 14 digs. The previous night, the Business major had 12.5 points off 11 kills and 1.5 blocks in just three sets of play. Code currently sits eighth in the province with 3.18 kills per set and ninth with 3.8 points per set.
