Cougars MVB, MHKY move up, WHKY slide in latest U SPORTS top 10 rankings

U SPORTS announced their latest top 10 rankings, naming three Mount Royal Cougars teams as top squads in the nation.

Mount Royal’s men’s hockey team moved up three spots to the #2 ranking in the latest national rankings. The Cougars are coming off a huge weekend, defeating their bitter rivals the University of Calgary Dinos twice. MRU prevailed 3-2 in a shootout in front of more than 10,000 fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome in the annual Crowchild Classic. Following the energizing victory, the team doubled down on the Dinos, defeating their neighbour up the expressway 3-2 in regulation for their 11th win in a row. MRU will play their final home games of the regular season as they host the ninth-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend. Read about the men’s hockey rankings on usports.ca.

MRU men’s volleyball team moved two spots to the #4 ranking after two wins in their final home games of the regular season. The Cougars swept the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 on Friday night and found victory again with a 3-2 win on Saturday. The two wins propelled Mount Royal to the top of the Canada West standings and improved them to a 14-6 record. The first-place Cougars have a chance to extend their lead in the conference as they visit the Brandon University Bobcats. Read about the men’s volleyball rankings on usports.ca.

The Cougars women’s hockey team fell to #9 in the U SPORTS rankings. The defending national champions saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt with a pair of losses to the Calgary Dinos. MRU was shutout 2-0 in the Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday. Unable to avenge the defeat, the Cougars fell by a 4-2 score in Friday’s rematch against the Dinos. They will look to return to their winning ways as they visit the tenth-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend. Read about the women’s hockey rankings on usports.ca.
