The University of Regina’s women’s volleyball team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday night with a four-set victory over the Brandon Bobcats at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars burst out of the gates with six straight points with Annika Hufnagel serving, and led 14-2 at one point before claiming the first set by a 25-17 margin.
Brandon replied with a 25-23 win in the second set, but the Cougars hit an impressive .472 as a team en route to a 25-14 third-set victory.
Regina also hit well in the fourth set, registering .321 as a team while clinching the match with a 25-21 win.
Jordy McEachern had another big outing for the Cougars, leading all players with 15 kills and setting a new career high with 15 digs.
The Bobcats were led by Keely Anderson’s team-high 13.5 points, which included 11 kills on 38 swings. Anderson had another great night from the service line. The second-year outside registered two aces but kept the Cougars under pressure all night.
The Cougars (2-14) are back in action at home next weekend as they’ll host Winnipeg on Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. The Wesmen will enter the weekend with an 11-5 Canada West record after a road sweep at Calgary this weekend.
The Bobcats will welcome the Calgary Dinos for a weekend series, starting next Friday at 6 p.m.
