The York University Lions men’s volleyball team earned two OUA all-star selections as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Second-year middle blocker, Dennis Cota, was selected to the OUA second-team all-stars after a dominant season on the court. The Kinesiology & Health Science major, was an integral part of the Lions offense all season. In his 17 matches and 64 sets played, Cota finished third in the OUA in service aces (28) and service aces per set (0.44), while finishing in fifth in block solo (18). He recorded 113 kills on 257 total attacks on the season for a .230 hitting percentage, while tallying 164.0 points and 2.6 points per set. He earned a seasons high five service aces on Jan. 5 against Guelph, and 12 kills on Jan. 12 against Waterloo in the Lions 3-1 victory.
Joining Cota on the OUA second-team all-stars is third-year setter Jasraj Nijjar.
Nijjar, a Sociology major, played in 18 matches and 67 sets this season for the Lions, being a key driving force to his teams offense. He finished 10th overall in the OUA for assists (512) and assists per set (7.64). Nijjar tallied 38 kills on 83 total attacks, had 13 service aces and 80 digs, earning 58.5 points on the season. He recorded a seasons high 43 assists on Feb. 10 against the Windsor Lancers, and had nine games where he tallied 30 or more assists.
