Cooney earns OUA Athlete of the Week honours after impressive 34-kill performance

Burlington, Ont. – Jacqueline Urban and Devin Cooney have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending November 17, 2024. 

Jacqueline Urban, Carleton Ravens, Basketball

Urban led the Carleton Ravens to their sixth and seventh straight victories over the weekend, averaging 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.

The third-year guard scored 16 points and put up 10 rebounds in her 22 minutes on the floor in Carleton’s 105-62 win over Algoma on Friday night.

On Sunday, in a battle of the final two undefeated teams in the OUA, Urban recorded another double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Ravens beat the Brock Badgers 78-49.

The Ancaster, Ont. native currently sits third in the OUA standings with 67 rebounds to date.

Devin Cooney, Brock Badgers, Volleyball

In an impressive performance on Saturday, Cooney delivered a season and a game-high scoring 37.5 points in a single match. The third-year business communication student notched an impressive 34 kills on 70 attempts for a .314 hitting percentage while adding two service aces and 1.5 blocks in the Badgers 3-1 loss to the Guelph Gryphons.

The night prior, Cooney registered another 20-plus point performance, scoring 19 kills and 1.5 blocks, as Brock fell in three sets to the Gryphons.

Currently, the outside hitter from Kanata, Ont. leads all hitters in the OUA with 152 total points, 5.2 points per set, 128 total kills, and 4.41 kills per set.
