TORONTO – On Saturday the TMU Bold women’s volleyball team dominated against the Windsor Lancers, and today they were more than prepared for round two.
In an early start to the game, the Bold and the Lancers battled back and forth, collecting points and keeping this a one-point match.
Lauren Veltman has been a crucial asset to the team and her leadership on the court has been loud and clear.
In any attempt that the Lancers made, the Bold shut it down with numerous blocks and in no time the Bold took the lead and outperformed the Lancers in the first set 25-22.
Head coach Dustin Reid had one goal for his team and that was to perform as hard as they train. “Today, to overcome small plays that weren’t really our best and excel so much in the end was a great sign and response from our group.”
Ashley Ditchfield recorded a hitting percentage of 0.643%, way above average, and added nine kills, continuing to be a veteran leader for the Bold.
“I’m always trying to find the holes on the court, and I felt like my energy was good, and supported by my teammates so I have no problem with throwing the hammer down,” commented Ditchfield.
Scarlett Gingera, who helped the Bold reach victory yesterday, felt that she came back from her mistakes and regained confidence on the court thanks to her teammates.
The Lancers recorded more blocking errors, making it easier for the Bold to take the lead, ending the second set at 25-17.
The Bold had played two ideal sets with minimal errors, and entering the third, they only got stronger, quicker, and hungrier for the win.
Mikayla Sherriffs hit the Lancers with some precise kills, helping the Bold catch up on the scoreboard. The Bold bench was hyped with every kill and the crowd was blazing with excitement.
“We needed that,” Sherriffs said. After losing to the Lancers last season, this win was the fire that the Bold needed to end off the weekend.
Passing the Lancers on the scoreboard in the third was electric for the Bold, but the fight was not over yet, and Gingera was on a heater, killing the ball any chance she got.
An intense third set was only more nail-biting by the second as the Bold and the Lancers battled for each point, but the Bold came out on top with a score of 25-23.
“I think it’s being able to play the biggest points like it is any other point, we can be at our best,” added Reid.
It was a successful and exciting win for the TMU Bold women’s volleyball team as they picked up their second win of the season. The team is back in action next weekend when they visit the Brock Badgers.
