LANGLEY, B.C. – Brodie Hofer (Langley, B.C.) has been named the Canada West Men’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week after yet another stunning performance in conference play. This is Hofer’s second time earning the honour in the 2021-22 season.
The Spartans were lifted by Hofer’s dominance on the left-side against UBC Okanagan throughout the weekend series which saw TWU take both games.
Hofer, a third-year, averaged 4.9 kills-per-set over both matches on an overall hitting efficiency of 34.5 percent. He also led the Spartans in points, averaging 5.5 points scored per set.
Friday’s victory (25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 16-25, 15-11) was closely contested as UBCO pushed the Spartans to five sets. Hofer was instrumental in TWU’s seventh win of the season, putting down two kills in the 4-0 run that would close the match. The third-year averaged 4.4 kills-per-set on a hitting rate of 35.7 percent. Adding seven digs and an an ace into the mix, Hofer put down a game-high of 24.0 points.
With Friday’s contest being closely contested, Saturday saw Hofer and the undermanned Spartans explode for a 3-0 sweep (34-32, 25-21, 25-17). Once again, Hofer put down game-highs in kills (5.7 per set) and points (6.7 per set) while chipping in with another seven digs, and two aces.
Now that Hofer and the Spartans are rolling to yet another weekend sweep, TWU, who stand at a perfect 8-0, will be travelling to face the UBC Thunderbirds (5-3). UBC currently stands at second place in Canada West’s western division.
