The Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team is ready to hit the court again.
With returning leaders and plenty of new players, this year’s squad is going to be an interesting one to watch out for.
The team narrowly missed the playoffs last year but ended the season on a five-game winning streak. Coach Matt Ragogna will be looking to carry some of that momentum into 2023-24.
This year’s Badger team will be led by returning stars Grant Reddon, Kylar Code, and Devin Cooney.
Entering his senior season, Grant Reddon is coming off of his best year as a Badger to date. The Whitby native was named an OUA first team all-star after leading the province in assists/set (9.94), third in total assists (666) and fifth in digs/set (1.84). Expect to see Reddon setting up kills for the Badgers all year long.
Kylar Code is also coming off of his most successful season in a Brock uniform. His sophomore season last year saw him be named an OUA second team all-star and win the team’s Most Improved Player award. Being one of the main outside hitters for Brock, Code will look to improve upon his stellar numbers from last season that saw him rack up 239 kills, 39 service aces and 23 blocks.
Coming off of being named to the U SPORTS all-rookie team as well as spending some time with the U-21 Canadian National Team this summer, sophomore outside hitter Devin Cooney is ready to take the OUA by storm. After recording an impressive 144 kills in his rookie season, the Kanata, Ont native will look embrace an even larger role with the Badgers this year.
Coach Ragogna has also reloaded the roster quite a bit by bringing in seven freshmen athletes as well as two transfers.
Junior libero, Adrian Gaspar (transfer from Toronto Metropolitan University) and sophomore outside-hitter, Eric Scott (transfer from Guelph) are two players with OUA experience looking to contribute to the Badgers success this season.
Adam Shapcott is a freshman libero that has seen plenty of action in Brock’s exhibition games and is looking like a staple of the rotation heading into the season.
Shapcott headlines the class of first-year Badgers that is rounded out by Nigel Mason, Jaiden Dixon-Beason, Nathan Gibbons, Philip Kovac, Owen McConnell, Rowan Redekop and Liam Strong.
Brock looked strong in their preseason games, going 3-1 with two wins over the University of Toronto and a win over Guelph.
The Badgers will kick off their season on the road in Toronto when they take on the York Lions on Saturday, November 4 at 3 p.m.
