The Badgers suffered a tight loss in a match that went the distance.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team hosted the McMaster Marauders at Bob Davis Gymnasium, which they dropped a close 3-2 decision (25-22, 25-22, 24-26, 17-25, 18-20).
Both Kylar Code and Adam Shapcott had quite the night as Code had 23 points with 20 coming from kills, two from blocks and two aces, while Shapcott had 46 assists.
The opening and second frame were filled with action as Brock would trail in both sets. The would ultimately come up big as they strung together large runs to win both sets by a score of 25-22 to go up 2-0.
A nail-biting third frame saw the Badgers go back and forth with the Marauders, but it was McMaster that ended up with the 26-24 set victory as Brock couldn’t close out the match.
McMaster outplayed the Badgers in the fourth frame, winning 25-17 to send the game to a final set.
The extra set saw the Badgers get to match point three times as Code, Devin Cooney, Philip Kovac and Liam Strong came up with clutch kills to keep the home side in it. Brock fought but it was McMaster who earned the fifth-set victory with a score of 20-18.
In the hitting percentage department, the Marauders led with .326 as opposed to Brock’s .256.
Cooney was also in double digits in points with 16 off of 13 kills, two blocks and two aces.
