Bold prevail in tight match with Trent

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s volleyball team picked up their first win of 2023 with a 3-0 sweep over Trent on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the sweep, Saturday’s contest was no easy task for the Bold as they had to battle in each and every set to prevail as winners – particularly in the second and third sets. In the second, the Bold trailed 22-19 and were forced to call a timeout. The squad responded, winning the next five points to flip the script and hold a 24-22 lead before finishing the set at 25-23.

In the third TMU trailed for much of the set but began to grab the momentum back late in the set. Trailing 18-15, the Bold rallied to tie the score at 19-19 before rattling off another three straight points to lead 22-20. Trent put up one last rally, retaking the lead at 23-22, but Jacob Walker went to work and tallied three straight kills to close the set at 25-23 and the match at 3-0.

Walker finished with 15 kills to lead the Bold while libero Adrian Gaspar earned his first start and picked up a career-high 11 digs in the win. Nicholas Hudson also had a strong all-around game with seven kills, six digs, and two service aces.

The victory extends the Bold’s win streak to four games, improving their record to 4-6 along the way.

TMU and Trent meet again on Sunday afternoon in a rematch at the Trent Athletic Centre. First serve flies at 3 p.m.
