WINDSOR, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s volleyball team were unable to rebound on Saturday afternoon, dropping their second contest of the season to the Windsor Lancers. The 3-0 scoreline matched last night’s, as the Bold moved to 0-2 after the opening weekend of play.
Picking up where they left last night, the Windsor wall was impressive in the opening stages. It helped them build a sizable first set lead, as the Lancers jumped ahead 15-9 behind their strong defensive play. Windsor would run away with the opening set after a Bold timeout, securing a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 set victory.
Despite dropping their first four sets of the season, the Bold raced out to a 7-4 lead in the second set. Taylor Wenzel played a pivotal role in the Bold lead, with several key digs helping establish the TMU lead. Despite the hot start, the Lancers leveled the second set score at 18. Despite the efforts of Wenzel, and Kai Higuchi, who finished with six kills in the second set, the Lancers closed out the second set 25-22.
Holding a two sets to none advantage, the Lancers continued to keep their foot on the gas. Their defense continued to create problems for the Bold attack, holding them to a dismal .190 hitting percentage. The Bold leveled the third set at 18, however the Lancers pulled away, securing victory with a 25-21 third set victory.
The Bold are back in action next weekend with a set against Trent. Matches can be streamed on OUA.tv, with students receiving free admission to all home games with their OneCard.
