The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team secured a thrilling five-set victory against Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on October 4, 2024. The Blues triumphed 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 18-16), showing resilience in a tightly contested match that lasted over two hours.
The match featured standout performances from several Blues players. Jayden Talsma led the offensive charge with 13 kills on 36 attempts, contributing a total of 18 points. Setter Michael Hickey was instrumental in the win, dishing out 43 assists, 9 digs, and 5.5 points of his own. Orgil Munkh was highly efficient, posting 7 kills and an impressive .500 hitting percentage, while Hunter Arulpragasam and Luka Minic both added 5 kills each.
TMU put up a fierce fight, with Jacob Walker tallying 19 kills and Alex King chipping in 13, but the Varsity Blues’ balanced attack and solid blocking proved to be too much for the Bold to overcome. Critical blocks from Munkh, Talsma, and Minic secured the victory for Toronto and made an impact in an intense back-and-forth final set.
The Blues close out their exhibition schedule with a matchup against the Windsor Lancers on Friday, October 18, taking place at Appleby College in Oakville. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
