The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-0 on Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon at Goldring Centre. With the win, the Blues sit sixth in the OUA standings, awaiting next weekened OUA Quarter-Final match. The Blues will play either the Brock Badger or the Guelph Gryphons.
Set scores in the match were 25-23, 25-16, 21-15.
This second game of the back-to-back series against the Windsor Lancers marked the end of the OUA regular season. Both teams were at par on court, each balancing a powerful offense with an attentive defense. The Blues racked up 44 kills out of 86 total attacks, while the Lancers recorded 34 out of 101 attacks. On the defensive side Toronto made 34 digs and 6.0 total blocks slightly ahead of Windsor who tallied 30 digs and 5.0 total blocks.
Standing out for the Blues was outside hitter Jayden Talsma who set a game-high of 20 total points through a combination of 18 kills, one service ace, and one block solo. Tailing Talsma was Josh Chapman who tallied 12 total points from 11 kills, four digs, and two assited blocks.
Toronto’s offense was orchastrated by setter Michael Hickey who racked up 41 assists. Heading the defense, was Connor Vanderkuip who recorded 12 digs.
The Windsor Lancers were led by Kaden Reid who scored 12 total points from 11 kills, eight digs, and two assisted blocks.
The Blues will return to the court away from home on Saturday (Feb. 24) for the OUA Quarter-Finals. All the action can also be caught online via oua.tv.
