The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team swept the RMC Paladins 3-0 on Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.
Set scores in the match were 25-11, 25-8, 25-18.
The Blues dominated offensively, finishing the game with 33 kills compared to the Paladins 11, while holding an advantage in service aces (9), assists (43) and points (55).
Outside hitters Olivia Zhu and Giulia Chimilovski led the way for the Blues. Zhu finished the game with a game-high 18 points from 14 kills and four service aces. Meanwhile, Chimilovski had 12 points from 10 kills and two service aces.
A trio of setters, Anna Arellano, Jenna Peters, and Robin Melnick, led the Blues offence to victory. Melnick led the trio with 14 assists while Peters and Arellano were tied at 10 assists a piece.
Middle blocker Eve Smith led the Paladins this evening, recording a team-high of seven points from seven kills.
The Blues will return to action on Friday, February 2 when they travel to Peterborough, Ont., to take on the Trent Excalibur. First serve is set 6 p.m. The action will be live streamed online via oua.tv.
