The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team beat the TMU Bold in an exhibition game 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-10, 24-26, 15-13) on Tuesday (Jan. 3) evening at Goldring Centre
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues came out strong in the first set taking a 13-5 lead before taking the set 25-15. In the second set, the Blues would open the set with an 8-3 lead. Despite the Blues lead, the Bold would battle back to take a 17-15 lead. TMU would continue their comeback in the second half of the set, ultimately winning 25-19.
In the third, the Blues would quickly establish a 12-4 lead. The Blues wouldn’t look back, holding the Bold to six more points, taking the third set 25-10. A back-and-forth fourth set saw the Blues take a 22-16 lead, but the Bold would mount another comeback winning the fourth set 26-24. In the fifth and deciding set, the Blues and Bold continued to battle with the Bold taking an early 8-7 lead, but the Blues would take the set 15-13.
The Blues were led by second-year outside hitter Julia Murmann, who registered 16 kills and 13 digs for 19.5 points.
Fourth-year outside hitter Hope Kotun finished the game with 16 kills, 14 digs and one block. The kinesiology major totalled 16.5 points.
UP NEXT: The Blues resume regular season play this coming weekend as they face off against the Guelph Gryphons at Goldring Centre.
