BLUES HOST MONCTON IN PREASON ACTION

Opening their preseason matches at home, the University of Toronto women’s volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 15-25, 21-25) to Université de Moncton at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House on Sunday (Oct. 15) afternoon.
 
The Blues were led by third-year outside hitter, Julia Murmann who finished the game with 22 points including 19 kills, 13 digs and three aces. Outside hitter Giulia Chimlovski recorded 10.5 points in the match with, eight kills, one service ace and one block. 
 
The first set went the way of the Blues, who took it 25-18. Both teams started off going back and forth and found themselves tied at eight points early on. With a kill from middle blocker Thea Ziesmann, the Blues took the lead and held it until the end of the set.
 
In the second set, Moncton went on a scoring run with the first five points of the set. This lead served them well as they held control for the remainder of the set. Nevertheless, the Blues went on scoring runs with crucial plays from middle blocker Anna Gadomski, and Murmann, but would ultimately fall 22-25. 
 
For the final two sets, Moncton’s offense prevailed as they set the precedent early in the sets causing attacking errors from the Blues. Moncton took the third set 15-25 Late in the fourth, the Blues came back with a series runs including services aces from setter Robin Melnick and libero Delaney Watson. However, they were edged 21-25 in the final set. 

Next, the Blues will remain at home for another preseason match against the TMU Bold on Friday, October 20. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tickets for the contest are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while the game will also be streamed live and on-demand via oua.tv.
