The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team fell to the Lakehead Thunderwolves in four sets on Friday (Nov. 17) evening in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Set scores in the match were 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 19-25, 20-25.
Although the Blues fell to the Thunderwolves, the Toronto recorded only one fewer kill than the Thunderwolves 41.
The Blues top finisher of the match was second year outside hitter Olivia Zhu who tallied a team-high 17 points off 15 kills and two service aces. While first-year outside hitter Kara Chan recorded 8 points from 8 kills.
Setter Robin Melnick was a key player for the Blues. Melnick tallied a team-high 33 assists, three kills, one service ace, and one solo block.
Blues libero Delaney Watson registered a game-high 23 digs during the four sets.
The Thunderwolves were led by outside hitter Lauryn Langley who recorded a team-high 20.5 points from 19 kills, one service ace, and one block assists.
Next up, the Varsity Blues will continue play in Thunder Bay, Ont. tomorrow, November 18 to face-off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. The match will be live streamed via oua.tv.
