The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Windsor Lancers on Friday (Feb. 16) evening at Goldring Centre.
Set scores in the match were 23-25, 23-25, 21-15.
While both teams were relatively level with their defence, Toronto’s offence was firing at a higher rate over the Lancers with 106-95 total attacks and 39-36 total kills, respectively. However, Windsor’s defence was able to handle the intensity of the Blues attack, finishing the night with 44 digs and seven blocks.
Leading the Blues was second-year outside hitter Jayden Talsma who recorded a game-high of 14 points from 14 kills. He was followed by third-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam and first-year outside hitter Josh Chapman with each registering 10 points apiece.
Toronto’s offence was split between second-year setter Michael Hickey who racked up 22 assists, and third-year setter Davis Young who recorded 14 assists. The Blues defence on the other hand, was a joint effort led by Talsma with 10 digs, while Arulpragasam, Connor Vanderkuip, and Chapman tallied eight, seven, and six digs, respectively.
With of offence that was spread out among many, the Lancers were led by Gustavo Siqueira who scored nine points with a combination of eight kills and one solo block.
The Blues will return to the court on Friday (Feb. 17) to faceoff against the Lancers in their last game of the OUA regular season. First serve is set for 4 p.m. Tickets for the Blues home game can be purchased at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while all the action can also be caught online via oua.tv.
