BLUES DROP CONTEST TO GRYPHONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Guelph Gryphons on Thursday (Jan. 4) evening in Guelph, Ont. 

Set scores in the match were 24-26, 22-25, 20-25.

The Blues came out strong to start the first set, holding a 5-2 lead, but the Gryphons clawed their way back to take a six-point advantage of their own 18-12, before taking the set 26-24. In the second set, the two teams battled hard, with neither team holding a significant lead until the end when the Gryphons captured four straight points to end the set. It was a similar fate in the third and final set with both teams trading chances until a 6-2 run from Guelph ended the match.

Leading the Blues was third-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam, who recorded a team-high 17 points, with 15 kills and two service aces. Along with Jayden Talsma, the two also had six digs a piece. Third-year setter Davis Young set the Blues up offensively, finishing the game with 22 assists. 

The Blues will return to the court on Saturday (Jan. 6) to battle the York Lions at 8 p.m. All the action can be caught online via oua.tv.
