Continuing their trend on strong play Friday afternoon at the Goldring Centre, the No. 6 University of Toronto Varsity Blues cruised to a 3-0 (25-28, 25-23, 25-18) victory over the visiting Brock Badgers.
HOW IT HAPPENED: From the very beginning of the match, the Blues were able to establish control, which was something they would not relinquish. Toronto jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before extending it to 14-5. The Badgers would trim the lead down to four points at 22-18, however, that was as close as they would get, with Toronto going on to win the set 25-18.
The second set of the contest would wind up being the closest of the three, with Brock taking a lead during the early stages. Although not able to pull away by more than three at any point, the Badgers still held the lead for a good chunk of the middle set. Battling there way back though, the Blues tied the set 20-20, and from there, they went on to win five of the next eight points to put themselves up 2-0.
Although the two teams went back and forth to start the third set, Toronto quickly found a groove. Leading 9-8, the Blues quickly broke the set open going on a 13-6 run and taking a 22-14 lead. They would then go on to finish off the match to secure their sixth straight win.
UP NEXT: The Blues will return to the court on December 3 to play their final game before the holiday break. That match will see Toronto once again take on the Badgers at 4:00 p.m.
