The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball defeated the York Lions 3-1 on Saturday (Jan. 6) evening.
Set scores in the road contest were 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23.
Due to similar skill sets, both teams displayed teamwork and strategy throughout the game to employ their best efforts. However, York finished the night with a combined total of 44 attack and service errors, proving to be their downfall when compared to just 38 total errors for Toronto in the victory.
Third-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam tallied a game-high of 21 kills, while second-year outside hitter Jayden Talsma followed closely behind with 17 kills. Even with their remarkable quantity of kills both outside hitters also made less than four attack errors.
Slightly behind the Blues leaders was Martin Prinsloo with 16 kills for the York team-high..
Setting the pace for Toronto’s offence was setter Davis Young who recorded 27 total assists. Toronto’s defence was a joint effort led by libero Rylan Armstrong with nine digs and Arulpragasam who recorded 11 digs.
The Blues will battle the Queen’s Gaels next week on Friday (Jan. 12) evening at the Goldring Centre. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets for the Blues home game can be purchased at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while all the action can also be caught online via oua.tv.
