Badgers suffer tough defeat in Guelph

Brock fell in their Friday night contest against Guelph.

The Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team were defeated in a three-set match (20-25, 22-25, 24-26) against the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.

Third-year outside hitter Devin Cooney led the Badgers with 20.5 total points off of 19 kills and three block assists, followed by fifth-year outside hitter Nanle Yusuf who had an impactful ten kills early in the match.

In the first set, Brock battled back from trailing 14-7, but they ultimately fell short as they dropped the set.

The Badgers fell 25-20 in a tight second set as they led 5-1 early in the set and came within two points of tying the match at the tail end of the set.

Constant lead changes in an intense third and final set would not go the Badgers way, as the set ended with Guelph prevailing 26-24.

Guelph led with a hitting percentage of .304 followed by Brock’s .255 hitting percentage.

Second-year setter Adam Shapcott had a game-high 42 assists while also leading the Badgers in digs with six.

Up next, the Badgers will rematch the Gryphons on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre. The game will be available to watch on OUA.tv.
