ST. CATHARINES – In an exciting back-and-forth Friday night home contest at the Bob Davis Gym, the Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team came up just short in a 3-2 five set loss to the visiting York Lions. Set scores in the match were 27-25, 26-28, 25-21, 19-25, 13-15.
Following the two first sets, which both required extra points to resolve a winner, the Badgers and Lions each responded with a strong set of their own forcing a fifth and final deciding set to be played. In the fifth, the Lions jumped out to a 14-8 lead putting Brock on the back foot, but the Badgers responded with a five-point run to draw to within one. However, the comeback was not to be as the Lions secured the road win.
Even throughout the majority of the match in their attacks, the Lions were strong at the net recording 14 total blocks through the five sets, while the Badgers answered with spectacular defence recording over 50 total digs.
Five different Badgers reached double-digit points on the night, led by a game-high 18 points from Kylar Code who registered 17 kills and one service ace, along with a new career-high 13 digs for the second-year outside hitter. Finishing just a half point behind, Devin Cooney tallied 16 kills, one solo block, and one block assist. Sauli Lianga, Jacob Ferland, and Liam Strong rounded out the double-digit outings with 14.5, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
