WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axewomen defeated the UNB Reds 3-0 this Friday in front of a gate of 244 at the Stu Aberdeen Court, maintaining their perfect record of 4-0 this regular season.

The first set was a tight defensive battle that swung back and forth between the teams. Standout libero Becky Dorsey was all over the floor this set, coming up with numerous unbelievable digs on her way to an AUS Subway Player of the Game winning performance.

Despite the Reds putting in a gutsy showing, Acadia would come out on top of this set, 27-25.

The second game was a surgical performance by the Axewomen, who won the set 25-13. The second set saw a real team effort by Acadia, with great performances from players like Eve Collombin who was solid all night with three kills and two digs, as well as Wesley-Ann Bailey who played great offensively with three kills along with solid play on defense with 2 blocks.

The  Axewomen took an early third game lead, but the Reds posted a comeback from an 18-10 deficit to tie the game at 19. UNB’s Subway Player of the Game middle hitter Kindigo Watson put on the type of performance that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet but was visible from the stands. In the end, the Reds rally would fall short and a beautiful Charlotte Dean dump shot would seal the game and match for Acadia, who took the final set 25-21.

“We have like this special interconnectedness between us. We’re all out here playing for each other and you can sense it when you’re on the court and I think you can see it when you’re in the stands,” said Becky Dorsey following the match.

Dorsey finished with 5 assists and 18 digs, second to teammate Charlotte Dean‘s impressive and team-high 19 digs. Taylor Collombin posted a match-high 12 kills.

UNB’s Emma Burns landed eight kills for 10.5 points in the loss.

The Axewomen will be looking to maintain their perfect record tomorrow in a rematch with the Reds at 2:00 pm AT.
