WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Axewomen volleyball team opened the AUS regular season at home with a 3-1 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues, picking up wins in the first (25-15), second (25-23 and fourth (25-23) sets.
Veteran outside hitter Taylor Collombin delivered 16 kills, but the story of the game was teammate and rookie middle hitter Erica Fisher who landed 10 kills with a hitting efficiency of .562.

Fisher was named the Subway Player of the Game for her effort in a tight match against the feisty Aigles Bleues.
“For this match, we worked on getting points quickly and starting off strong. I felt, personally for this match, pretty good about how I played on the net but would love to see some better performance in my serving. Overall I felt good and the team performed very well. I am really looking forward to our match next week and tomorrow (against Moncton),” said Fisher after the match.
The Axewomen jumped out to a 7-1 start in the first set, but Moncton fought back to a 10-12 deficit. Several defensive errors by Moncton opened the lead to 20-13 and an eventual 25-15 win.
Acadia pushed to a 2-0 set lead after a close 25-23 win. The set was tight from beginning to end and in the closing minutes tied at 23-23, an attack error combined with a Sydney Zakutney kill, gave Acadia an important win.
A third-set win by Moncton extended the match to four games. Moncton capitalized on several attack and service errors along with several service aces by the Aigles Bleues and pushed out to a 19-10 lead and the eventual win.
The Axewomen bounced back in the fourth with a narrow 25-23 win and 3-1 match victory. Despite setting an early 14-7 lead, the Aigles Bleues fought back, tying the match at 20-20 on an Abigail Pallister kill. But the Axewoman Taylor Collombin matched the kill.
Tied at 23-23 after both teams swapped service errors, Moncton offered another service error and a Taylor Collombin service ace gave the Axewomen a 25-23 win.
Moncton was led offensively by Sara Chiasson who had 11 kills and a hitting efficiency of .321 . Both teams posted high numbers in service errors, but the Axewomen hurt themselves with 25 in four sets.
The Axewomen travel to Moncton on Sunday to play the Aigles Bleues at 2:00 pm.
