Earlier this month, York University held its annual President’s Staff Recognition Awards gala at York’s Sandra Faire & Ivan Fecan Theatre.
The awards recognize contributions to student experience in areas such as student success, academic achievement, strengthening community engagement and growing York’s global impact.
“York University is a leading institution of higher learning committed to enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve through our academic programs, the student learning experience, research and innovation, and community engagement efforts, all of which would not be possible without the dedicated and talented staff we have,” President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda Lenton told YFile.
Athletics & Recreation personnel were among the nominees for two awards.
Victoria Wilson, Coordinator, Business Development & Operations, was nominated for the Gary Brewer Emerging Leader Award. This award, named after former Vice President, Finance and Administration Gary Brewer, “recognizes early-career professionals who have shown tremendous promise for assuming a leadership role at the University, is known for their innovative and meaningful contributions to the effectiveness of their unit and has significantly contributed to the University’s commitment to excellence.”
The winner of the award was Aimee Mitchell, Research Officer, School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design.
A&R’s Business Development and Operations teams also received a nomination for the Harriet Lewis Team Award for Service Excellence. The award, the namesake of which is former University Secretary & General counsel Harriet Lewis, “recognizes excellence in service and support to students, faculty, staff and/or other service users.” The operations team consists of staff in facility operations, event operations and marketing communications, which, along with the staff from business development, accounts for 17 full and part-time employees.
Steven Chuang, Executive Director, Athletics & Recreation, says the nominations earned speak to the continual commitment of Athletics & Recreation staff to serve all those with whom they interact with the utmost professionalism.
“As a nominator, I am extremely proud of our staff members from the entire business development and operations unit,” Chuang said. “They consistently demonstrate commitment to our core values while delivering results above-and-beyond each and every time.
“Athletics and Recreation provides services and support to multiple client groups, and the Harriet Lewis Team Award for Service Excellence exemplifies the collective quality of work that they produce. Each year, hundreds of contracts, internal and external groups interact with this unit, and exceed targets. Congratulations to all our nominees and recognition from President Lenton.”
