REDS Fall In Five

(ST. JOHN’S, NL) The UNB REDS fell 3-2 to the Memorial Sea-Hawks in women’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon, in St. John’s.

The REDS went up two-sets-to-none in this one, scoring 25-17 and 25-21 wins in the first two sets.

The home team then rallied, beating UNB 25-23, 25-21, and 16-14 in the decisive fifth set.

Memorial’s Lydia Grawler (St. Louis, MO), who currently leads Atlantic University Sport in scoring and kills, led all attackers with 25 kills while Karen Greek (Mount Pearl, NL) had a game-high 45 assists.

Talia Nixon (Fredericton, NB) had quite a day, registering 35 assists and nine blocks for UNB.

Jenna Adams (Truro, NS) had a game-high 18 digs for the REDS, giving her a league-leading 216.

Lydia Green (Bedford, NS) and Isla Olesen (Calgary, AB) struck 14 and 11 kills respectively, and Danielle Krzywonos (Valley, NS) put up eight blocks at the UNB net.

With the loss, the REDS are now 3-and-7 and occupy fifth place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

The Sea-Hawks are 6-and-4, part of a three-way ties for 2nd place.

Both teams now enter the holiday break and won’t see action again until January.

The Sea-Hawks will host Saint Mary’s in the first of a weekend series on Friday, January 10th.

The REDS host Moncton on Saturday, January 11th. Game time is 7:00pm.
