Women’s Hockey
Friday, November 8, 2024 @ Trinity Western Spartans – L 1-3 (TWU RECAP)

On their lone road trip to British Columbia of the season, the Dogs suffered back-to-back losses to the Trintiy Western Spartans in Langley, falling to 0-8-0-4 on the season. Highlighted on the weekend was another strong pair of performances from Colby Wilson despite facing 60 shots over the two games. Despite the heavy workload, Wilson turned aside 53 shots faced and kept the Huskies in both games for as long as she could. Wilson has faced the second most shots in the conference through 12 games and eight starts, a has still maintained a .911 save percentage. Friday night Kayle Hill scored the Dogs’ lone goal on a perfect redirect off of an Avery Gottselig shot for her second of the season. The following night saw Paris Oleksyn net her first of the season, popping the goalie’s water bottle with a perfectly placed shot just under the cross bar. 

Saskatchewan now heads to a much needed bye week, looking to regroup before hosting the Alberta Pandas for the second time this season on November 22 and 23 at Merlis Belsher Place. Women’s Volleyball

The Huskie women’s volleyball team captured a pair of straight-set victories on the road in Brandon, improving to 3-3 with a perfect weekened against the Bobcats. Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, and 25-21 Friday night before 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23 Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre. Taryn Hannah continued her impressive start to the season with the two-time 2024-25 Huskie Athlete of the Week totaling 28 points thanks to 21 kills, 5 service aces, and  2.0 blocks. However on Friday night it was third-year outside hitter Rosetta Cyr who produced a game-high 16-point, 12-kill performance converting on 50% of attacks. Veteran Julia Howell Bourner also had a productive weekend with 15.5 points. The Dogs now sit in 8th-place in the conference standings and ina tie for wins with the Alberta Pandas and Regina Cougars. 

It’s another road trip for the Dogs this coming weekend, as they will head to Edmonton for a weekend doubleheader with the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked Alberta Pandas. Catch all the action on CanadaWest.tv, presented by BioSteel.
 


Men’s Volleyball

The Healthy Living Centre in Brandon, Manitoba featured a U SPORTS Top-10 matchup this past weekend with the No. 8-ranked Huskies taking on the No. 9-ranked Bobcats. Over the course of the weekend, the Dogs outscored the Bobcats 5-4 in a pair of hard-fought matches which saw set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, and 13-15 and 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 30-28. On Friday, the two teams produced a five-set thriller in which Brando narrowly edged out the Huskies before the Dogs bounced Friday with an impressive four-set win which saw Saskatchewan take two sets which went past the 25-point mark. Friday saw four Huskies surpass the double-digit mark with Emmett Graham and Isaiah Mamer leading the way with 16.5 each followed by Jacob Baird (15) and Lucas Musschoot (10.5). Friday night saw Graham bring his weekend total to 41.5 with a sensational 25-point, 41% hitting performance. Meanwhile Mamer also impressive in game 2, with 16 points to total 32.5 on the weekend. The Dogs now own a 3-1 record through the opening two weeks of their season, holding onto 5th-place in the Canada West standings.

Saskatchewan will need to return to form this coming weekend again, as they head on the road to take on the No. 1-ranked team in the nation and the defending U SPORTS Champions in the Alberta Golden Bears. Catch the must-see matches on CanadaWest.tv.
 


Wrestling
Saturday, November 9, 2024 – Huskie Women @ Battle of the Rockies (Great Falls, Montana)
Sunday, November 10, 2024 – Huskie Men @ Haws/Elton Rumble (St. Johns, Minnestoa) – RESULTS

The Saskatchewan Huskie wrestling teams were in action at a pair of meets south of the border this weekend, with the Huskie women in Montana for the Battle of the Rockies which the USask men were competing in Minnesota at the Haws/Elton Rumble.

In the Battle of the Rockies, hosted by the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana, the Dogs saw a pair of podium performances against NCAA competition. Fourth-year student athlete Caitlin Clatney captured third-place along with Olivia Rose, a second-year arts & science student. Rounding out the Saskatchewan results were Sierra Mullin who earned a fourth-place finish and Taebyn Tulp who finished fifth.

On the men’s side, the Dogs were in St, Paul, Minnestoa for the Haws/Elton Rumble hosted by St. Johns University. Seven Huskies made the trip across the border, highlighted by Judah Arthurs defeating St. John’s Joshua Mitchell 20-3 by technical fall to claim a gold-medal finish. Wyatt Newsham made it two Huskies to reach the podium, claiming a third-place finish in the 285 lbs weight class. The other Huskies in action were Drake Buechler (4th), Cale Mohan (5th), Simon Trokhymchuk (6th), Layne Motley (6th), and Iulius Cojocaru (6th).

The next Huskie wrestling action comes at home on November 29 and 30. Friday, November 29 the Huskies women will take on the Calgary Dinos while the men host the Guelph Gryphons in the 2024 Huskie Duals. Saturday will then see the Huskie Open take place at Education Gymnasium.
