MONTREAL – Elyssa Lajmi registered a game-high 12 points and added nine digs as McGill swept the UQAC Inuk 3-0 in women’s volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Friday. The set scores were 28-26, 25-14 and 25-11.
The result halted a six-game slide for the youthful Martlets, including an exhibition setback to Windsor. In league play, the victory improved McGill’s record to 2-4, moving the Martlets into a tie with the squad from Chicoutimi, which dropped to 2-5. It also improved McGill’s lifetime undefeated record against UQAC to 4-0.
McGill held a 38-24 margin in kills, a 6-4 edge in stuff blocks, and a huge 64-44 advantage in digs.
Lajmi, a six-foot power-hitter who hails from France, posted a ‘double-double”, with 11 kills and 13 digs. The first-year grad certificate student in communications added a pair of assisted blocks and one assist.
The next closest teammates in the scoring were freshman Emma Waskiewicz of Laval, Que., and junior Rachel Leduc of Montreal, with 7.5 points apiece.
Setter Selima Guidara, a sophomore from Tunisia, paced the offence with 28 assists. She added 13 digs to go along with a pair of kills, two service aces and two assisted blocks.
McGill (2-4) will have day off before making the short trip downtown to confront third-place UQAM (2-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
