THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartan see most of their teams in play this weekend. Men’s and women’s soccer continue conference play, with men’s and women’s hockey beginning their conference play. Men’s and women’s basketball have single games, while men’s and women’s volleyball continue preseason tournament play.

NOTABLE

  • The Spartans (4-2-2) have a rematch with the UBC Okanagan Heat (4-4-1) and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (3-5-1) this Friday and Saturday.
  • The Spartans opened the Canada West season with a 2-1 win over the WolfPack in Kamloops, B.C. and a 1-0 win over the Heat in Kelowna, B.C. TWU is in third place in CW, UBC O is in fourth place, and TRU is in fifth place. The top four teams make the post season.
  • Last weekend the Spartans beat Mount Royal 1-0 in Calgary and lost to Victoria 1-0 in Victoria, B.C.  
  • The UBC O Heat defeated UNBC Timberwolves 3-1 and lost to the UBC Thunderbirds 1-0 last week.
  • Last Weekend the TRU WolfPack lost 3-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds and defeated the UNBC Timberwolves 1-0.

  • The Spartans (4-4-1) have a rematch with the UBC Okanagan Heat (2-6-3) and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (1-8-1) this Friday and Saturday.
  • The Spartans opened the Canada West season with a 2-1 loss to the WolfPack in Kamloops, B.C. and a 1-0 loss to the Heat in Kelowna, B.C.

  • The Spartans kick of the Canada West season hosting the Mount Royal Cougars this weekend.  Friday night is at the George Preston arena, with Saturday’s game at the Langley Events Centre.
  • The Spartans finished last year with a record of 4-23-1, while the Cougars finished at 21-6-1.

  • The Spartans continue their preseason this weekend with the annual West Coast Classic. TWU will host the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday and the Calgary Dinos on Sunday morning.
  • Last week the Spartans finished second at the TRU WolfPack tournament. Defeating the Fraser Valley Cascades 3-2, and the UBC Thunderbirds 3-0, before losing to the TRU WolfPack 3-2 in the final.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country, and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men’s rugby, as well as women’s and men’s disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 13 U SPORTS team championships and 32 Canada West team championships.
