LANGLEY, British Columbia– Trinity Western’s Kaden Schmidt (Mississauga, Ont.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 3.2 kills per set, while hitting at .359 for the tournament to help lead the Spartans to a fifth-place finish at the U SPORTS Championships this past week in Kingston, Ont.
On Thursday night the second-year outside hitter had 11 kills while hitting .381 with three digs, and two aces in the Spartans’ 3-2 quarter-final loss to the Queen’s Gaels.
On Saturday night the education student had a career-high 22 kills, hitting .333, with three digs and one block to help the Spartans to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Guelph Gryphons in the consolation semi-final. Schmidt was named player of the match for the Spartans for his personal best performance.
Then on Sunday afternoon, Schmidt finished the championship with 12 kills, while hitting at .385, with three digs and three blocks as the Spartans defeated the Laval Rouge et Or 3-1 in the consolation final to give TWU a fifth-place finish at the championship.
